Demin Era

Skinny Jeans
The denim trend began way back to 1853 when Levi Strauss found a gap in the market for miners and designed the ‘Denim Blue Jeans’.  Who would have known denim would become a timeless material used by all designers for nearly 150 years?!  The skinny jean design arrived in stores in the 1950’s and has never really left – the things that did change were how they were worn and what they were worn with. The 50’s saw them rolled up at the bottom and worn by celebrities such as Elvis Presley and James Dean. The 60’s saw them worn with heels. They went through a quiet period in the 70’s but they flew back in during the 80’s and have been at the height of fashion ever since.
Today – double denim is the trickiest and most controversial trend – you either love it or hate it. With Chloe, Ralph Lauren and Twenty8Twelve all gave good double denim on their spring/summer 2010 catwalk; below we can see Alex Chung snapped by Vogue sporting the double denim look ever so well.

Kate Moss brought out her own clothing range for Topshop and in her 2010 summer collection she added skinny jeans to her collection at a reasonable price of £70.00.
J Brand – well known for their skinny jeans, worn by celebrities such as Cheryl Cole and Eva Longoria price their skinnies at a purse busting £200.
On the high street – Skinny Jeans are everywhere and competition is fierce. Finding the perfect jeans that fit perfectly in all the right places is a full day chore and some might say a nightmare.
Dorothy Perkins has some of the best skinny jeans on the high street at a very affordable price. Take their  black skinny jean (seen below) 77% cotton – 21% polyester and 2% elastane they are retailing at ONLY £25.00.

Lets all go back in time....

A combination of Tweed and Shoulder Pads
Tweed has recently come back into fashion with many high street shops and designers adopting the material especially for their autumn/winter collections.
They have been an epitome of power dressing since the 40’s...and now the shoulder pads are back in fashion. Carola Long and Harriet Walker from the independent fashion state that ‘exaggerated shoulders are the dare to wear statement of the season’. In the 80’s they became a household name for celebrities such as Melanie Griffith and Michael Jackson.
After WW2 women’s fashions became increasingly militarised. Jackets and coats were influenced by masculine styles and shoulder pads became bulkier and were positioned at the top of the shoulder to create a solid look.

In the high designer market you can get this divine Givenchy Brushed Tweed Ruffle Jacket for a mere £ 1550.00.

For those of you that want the designer quality without the large price tag you can grab this Paul Costelloe Classic Tweed Car Coat for a reasonable £349.

But for all you traders out there that are looking to find a great seller....look no further. Here at J & N Herz this ex Warehouse Tweed Crombie Coat with shoulder pads is at a fantastic trade price of £16.50. Retailing at £100 on the high street – there is a great deal of profit to be made.

Ladies Work Trouser Phenomenon

The 21st century has seen a change in ‘stay at home’ mums with the increasing pressure to make ends meet. With us all spending an average of 48 hours in work each week why not look your best and keep up to date with the latest trend in work wear.

As an ever-increasing amount of women take to the work trouser and trouser suit how did we get here from a century ago, when prescribed sartorial propriety for women meant torsos had to be trussed up in corsets and bare flesh kept to an absolute minimum. But when did women move from the dress/skirt to the trouser? Well during the 20th century when women began to wear trousers it became the most important fashion phenomenon. Even going as far back as during the period of WW2 due to the rationing of clothing, women began to wear their husband’s trousers for work whilst they were away in the armed forces. Trousers began to be seen as a practical garment of work wear.

Now you have every magazine from Vogue who loves the news M&S collection to Look online writing articles and promoting the 2010 ladies trouser. Gap has just launched their new 2010 work trousers range which has gone down a storm in the states revolutionising Gaps ‘casual Friday’ wear to ‘7 days a week dressing’.

Here at J & N Herz we are getting in an assortment of ex M&S Ladies Work Trousers. A timeless edition to every working ladies wardrobe. A great way to mix comfort with professionalism and keep up with the 2010 work wear trends.
